Frequently Asked Questions

What even is Riverfest?

Rainbow Raccoon Riverfest is a two-day outdoor music festival hosted at Rainbow Raccoon Ranch. Live music, camping, food, bonfires, good people, and pure, fun Iowa summer energy with your best friends. It’s not a giant corporate festival with $14 bottled water and security guards. It’s a ranch party with live music and a whole lot of personality.

When is Riverfest?

Rainbow Raccoon Riverfest is Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6 at Rainbow Raccoon Ranch near Lake City, Iowa.

Where is Riverfest?

Riverfest takes place at Rainbow Raccoon Ranch near Lake City. You’ll trade traffic noise for music, pasture views, and stars you can actually see at night.

Who is playing?

Riverfest features some of Iowa's favorite local talent. Friday night, Rockwell City's Riddled with Class kicks off the weekend from 8:00 to 11:00 PM. Saturday brings a DJ by the river during the day, followed by Lake City's Barry Rutter from 7:30 to 9:00 PM and Jordan Beem from 9:30 to 11:00 PM. Returning by popular demand, Jordan's high energy country and rock show is the perfect way to close out the weekend.

Can I buy or bring booze?

BYOB is allowed. No glass bottles. Drink responsibly and don’t act like a jackass. Simple rules. Society could probably function better if more things worked that way.

Is there food?

You betcha. Weinie Wonderland food truck will be on site Saturday starting at 4:30pm serving up gyros, walking tacos, beef burgers, pulled pork, and more.

What should I bring?

Recommended survival kit: Lawn chair, boots or shoes you don’t mind getting dusty, sunscreen, bug spray, cooler, cash/card, hoodie for late nights, your “I can totally stay up past midnight” confidence. Recommended not to bring: glass bottles (because we are by the water), bad attitudes, drama, someone who complains about dirt at an outdoor ranch concert.

Can we camp overnight?

Absolutely. Camping is part of the Riverfest experience. Bring your tent, camper, lawn chairs, snacks, and your friend who swears they are “like, really good at camping" even though they own exactly zero flashlights. Camping spots are first come, first serve with no hookups. $20/site for the weekend. Rustic. Relaxed. Ranch-style.

Are the Highland cows going to be around??

Probably, unless we accidentally left the gate open again. They live here. They’ve become unofficial Riverfest mascots at this point, which honestly feels deserved.

Is Riverfest family friendly?

Riverfest is a 21+ event. No minors. This one’s for the grown-ups who need a night outside with live music and zero responsibility besides remembering where they set their folding chair.

What happens if it rains?

We’ll keep going unless weather becomes unsafe. If severe weather develops, updates will be shared on the official Riverfest Facebook page. BUT, this is Iowa. If we canceled outdoor events every time weather looked questionable, we’d all spend half of the year hiding indoors eating Casey’s pizza and staring at radar apps. Bring boots. Bring a poncho. Embrace the chaos.

How do tickets work?

Tickets are sold as wristbands. Weekend passes are $30, Friday-only wristbands are $10, and Saturday-only wristbands are $25. Advance wristbands can be purchased by Venmo at @RainbowRaccoonRanch with your name in the note. Wristbands will be picked up at will-call when you arrive. Wristbands can also be purchased at the gate with cash or Venmo.

Why do people keep coming back to Riverfest?

Because it feels real. Good music. Open skies. Bonfires. Camping. Small-town energy. Friends running into friends. People unplugging for a night and remembering life is actually pretty fun when nobody’s arguing on the internet. There’s something weirdly magical about hearing live music in a pasture while the sun goes down over the hills.
